Frequently Asked Questions

Golf Cart Service FAQs

Have questions about when or how to service your golf cart in Northeast Ohio? These quick answers are tailored to Mentor’s seasons and the issues we see most in our golf cart service department.
When should I service my golf cart?
In Mentor’s climate, we recommend a full service at least once a year for light, weekend-use carts and twice a year for carts used daily or for work—typically once in early spring before heavy use and once in late fall to catch issues before winter storage.
Most Northeast Ohio owners store their golf carts from late fall through early spring, usually between November and March, and it’s best to prep the cart for storage after a fall service so batteries, fuel, and fluids are in good shape before the cold hits.
Common reasons include discharged or bad batteries, loose or corroded cable connections, a faulty key switch, or, on gas carts, fuel or ignition issues like old gas or bad spark plugs—our service department can test each of these quickly and pinpoint the problem.
If your batteries won’t charge, it’s often due to batteries that are too discharged or worn out, corroded terminals or cables, or a charger that’s not recognizing the pack; in Northeast Ohio, long periods of winter storage without proper maintenance can accelerate these issues.
Backfiring on a gas golf cart is usually caused by unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust, often due to throttle cable adjustment, carburetor or fuel mixture problems, or an ignition timing issue—and it’s something we can diagnose and correct in our Mentor service department.
